Target Back-to-School Kickoff Intersects with Circle Week Event

Target Corp has initiated its back-to-school and back-to-college promotional season, one that overlaps with Circle Week, the company’s entry into the Amazon Prime Day-led July discount event battle among major retailers.

Target stated back-to-school and back-to-college deals will come across a mix of national brand and private-label merchandise. Back-to-school deals begin under $1 with most under $15, the retailer stated. Among the promotions, Target, in its Diverse Artist Series, will feature three Black creators whose art is featured in dorm decor across its Room Essentials and Threshold own brands assortment, the company indicated.

Back-to-school/college merchandise already heads up the target.com landing page, which features products from meal and beverage containers to Crayola crayons under the heading Ace the First Day. A click through to a Ready for School page offers water bottles as a category unto itself along with lunch bags, schools supplies, classroom essentials and school list assist. Further down on the target.com landing page, and below a banner for the July 9-15 Circle Week, are four category click throughs under the Prep for College heading: furniture, bedding, storage and must-haves for college.In addition to a reiteration of furniture and storage, must haves include kitchen, appliances and decor assortments reached through their own click-through icons.

This year, Target stated, it is expanding the company’s Teacher Appreciation Event. Now, teachers get a one-time 20% discount on an entire shopping trip. In addition Target noted that it is bringing back a one-time 20% discount on an entire shopping trip for verified college students through Target Circle, the company’s free-to-join loyalty program.

“Our back-to-school and back-to-college assortment features a broad range of essentials that are priced right for all families,” said Jill Sando, Target executive vice president and chief merchandising officer. “From on-trend Cat & Jack outfits and fun and functional Room Essentials dorm décor, to supplies of all kinds from Mondo Llama and top national brands, Target has everything to help students from pre-K to college start the school year in affordable style. We’re also pleased to expand our 20% teacher discount across the entire store and on target.com, to provide teachers with even greater value on the items they need for their classrooms.”
