SharkNinja got a boost from newly released products in the third quarter, beating a Wall Street estimate on earnings and revenues.

SharkNinja posted net income of $18.7 million, or 13 cents per diluted share, versus $80.3 million, or 58 cents per diluted share, in the year-prior quarter. Adjusted for one-time events, net income was $133 million, or 95 cents per diluted share, versus $99.2 million, or 71 cents per diluted share, in the year-earlier quarter.

A Yahoo-Finance published analyst consensus estimate called for adjusted diluted earnings per share of 81 cents and revenue of $1 billion.

Third-quarter net sales increased 13.1% to $1.07 billion year over year, while adjusted net sales increased 14.6% to $1.06 billion, the company reported. Operating income was $94.5 million versus $109.1 million in the year-past period, while adjusted operating income was $190.1 million versus $131.9 million.

By category, according to SharkNinja, year over year:

  • Cleaning Appliances net sales decreased 10.7% to $449.3 million, as adjusted net sales decreased 9% to $442.5 million, resulting from softness in the North American market for corded and cordless vacuums, partially offset by growth in the carpet extraction sub-category enabled by new product innovation.
  • Cooking and Beverage Appliances net sales increased 30.3% to $339.3 million as adjusted net sales increased 31% to $338.1 million, driven by growth in Europe, specifically in the United Kingdom, and a full quarter of sales for a new outdoor grill product that launched in the second half of 2022 continues to perform well across the U.S. and European markets.
  • Food Preparation Appliances net sales increased 31.1%, to $211.5 million as adjusted net sales increased by 33.5% to $209.3 million, driven by strong sales of ice cream makers and compact blenders, in the last case fueled by the rollout of new portable blenders.
  • Other net sales increased 223.2% to $70.5 million as adjusted net sales increased 209.3% to $67.5 million, primarily fueled by continued strength of haircare products within the beauty category.

In announcing the third quarter results, Mark Barrocas, SharkNinja CEO, said, “I’m thrilled with our strong performance in the third quarter. This results from a lot of hard work by our teams across the globe. We continue to deliver on our three-pillar growth strategy of gaining market share in existing categories, entering new and adjacent categories and international expansion. We are leveraging our disruptive innovation engine, our highly effective go-to-market strategy, and our efficient supply chain as we strive to deliver industry-leading growth and profitability. We have good momentum as we head into the holiday season. As we look into our future, I’m excited about the tremendous whitespace in front of us. I am confident we’re on the right track to fulfill our mission of positively impacting people’s lives every day in every home around the world and to deliver substantial value to all our stakeholders.”

YouCopia has introduced the DoorStash, DrawerFit and Restickable collections designed to make consumers’ kitchens more functional and sustainable.

DoorStash Collection

DoorStash organizers have an over-the-door design, hanging (and hiding) on the inside of cabinet doors. The organizers utilize vertical space to elevate bulky, everyday items off cabinet floors to free up storage space.

“Consumers have embraced the organization trend of transferring consumables from original packaging to other storage containers,” says Lauren Greenwood, president of YouCopia. “That’s because every inch counts with limited under sink storage. The DoorStash Collection increases storage capacity in the space you do have and makes it more efficient.”

DoorStash Garbage Bag Dispenser

DoorStash Dishwasher Pod Holder

The DoorStash Garbage Bag Dispenser holds a standard roll of 13-gallon garbage bags that dispense through a wide front opening. A removable lid with top tray offers quick reloading and additional storage for other small items.

The DoorStash Dishwasher Pod Holder holds 50-plus dishwasher pods in a flip-down bin. The bin has a wide opening to make it easy to refill pods or clean in case of spills.

Both products come in a speckled white color with a brushed nickel steel bracket and an anti-fingerprint finish, fit standard cabinet doors and feature soft, non-slip padding. They are made with BPA-free, post-industrial recycled plastic and both retail for $34.99.

DrawerFit and ReStickable Collections

Designed for underutilized space, DrawerFit Sliding Organizers sit on the drawer’s frame to create an extra level of storage and glide side-to-side for access to what’s below. ReStickable Drawer Dividers grip on disheveled drawers while providing an adjustable, reusable and sustainable alternative to single-use adhesives or spring dividers.

“Whether in the kitchen, bathroom, or office, deep drawers are one of the toughest organizing challenges in the home,” Greenwood said. “They get filled with so many different items that it’s near impossible to find what you need. On top of the messy drawer itself is wasted vertical space that doesn’t get used properly.”

DrawerFit Sliding Bin

DrawerFit Sliding Tray

ReStickable Drawer Dividers

The DrawerFit Sliding Bin and DrawerFit Sliding Tray create a second tier of storage to elevate items to convenient reach. The bin can store items like grilling tools, mitts and kitchen towels to free up space below. The tray includes two adjustable dividers for customizable storage that keeps smaller items in view.

Both products come in a speckled white color, expand up to 24 inches, feature locking teeth to hold at the desired length, require a minimum interior drawer length of 14 inches and are made of BPA-free post-industrial recycled plastic. They are available now with a retail price of $19.99 each.

The ReStickable Drawer Dividers have reusable nano-suction brackets with no installation or sticky residue. The dividers are created to have a slim footprint for maximized storage space and slide off the bracket easily for cleaning or repositioning. Sets are available in two different sizes for deep (4 inches, 2-pack) and shallow (2.5 inches 3-pack) drawers. The dividers come in a speckled white color, expand up to 24 inches, require a minimum interior drawer length of 12 inches and are made of BPA-free, post-industrial recycled plastic. They are available now with a retail price of $19.99.

Oxo announced the third year of its Chefs in Residence program, which offers a look into the lives of chefs as they showcase their culinary skills using Oxo tools.

This year, Oxo introduced Baked by Melissa co-founder and CEO Melissa Ben-Ishay and James Beard award-winning chef JJ Johnson as the latest additions to the culinary content series.

Oxo’s Chef’s in Residence is a collaborative series that features creators with one common goal: to bring a “better” experience to your kitchen, said the company. The in-house experts invite the audience into their everyday lives and share pro tips. For the inaugural year of the program, Oxo partnered with chef personalities Eden Grinshpan, Rick Martinez and Kwame Onwuachi. In the second year, Oxo partnered with James Beard award-winning chefs Gregory Gourdet, Joanne Chang and Tim Hollingsworth.

The program provides a way for culinary artists to bring in fresh perspectives, offer unique dining experiences to their patrons and have a platform to showcase their skills, said Oxo. The new Chefs in Residence will showcase cooking talents and educate consumers through an upcoming content series that has something for everyone from the seasoned chef to the home cook.

In the first part of the series, the Chefs in Residence will look at pantry and refrigerator organization, sharing ways to arrange ingredients for easy access, reducing food waste and storing ingredients to extend shelf life. The second installment will focus on creating unforgettable holiday feasts as the holiday season approaches, including how to craft main dishes and unique holiday recipes from different cultures. The two chefs also will be featured in Oxo’s Master It series, in which people can learn how to use Oxo tools to create classic staples and dishes by award-winning chefs. Each video will be paired with a short anecdote or story about the chef.

Chef Johnson is most recognized for his approach to African Caribbean cuisine and his work has earned him a James Beard Foundation Book Award and a two-time spot on the Nation’s Restaurant News Power List. He has been featured on a variety of culinary TV shows including Food Network’s “Chopped”, Netflix’s “Street Food”, HBO Max’s “Selena + Chef “and hosts his own show “Just Eats with Chef JJ” airing its fifth season on TV One’s network Cleo TV this fall. Chef JJ’s cookbook, “The Simple Art of Rice: Recipes from Around the World for the Heart of Your Table,” will be released in September 2023. Johnson also has a multi-unit fast casual rice bowl restaurant, Fieldtrip, with three locations in New York City. At Fieldtrip, he works with local rice farmers and producers to source fresh ingredients and champions for sustainability.

Ben-Ishay co-founded Baked by Melissa, a New York-based dessert brand known for its bite-size cupcakes and treats. Since its founding in 2008, the company has opened 14 retail locations in the NYC metropolitan area and ships gifts nationwide. Ben-Ishay has been recognized as one of the most influential recipe creators by Business Insider, Mashed, Yahoo and more. In 2022, her viral Green Goddess Salad was among the most searched recipes on Google Trends. She has been featured in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, People, “Today,” “Good Morning America,” “Rachael Ray,” and more. Recent accolades include Inc. Female Founders 100 List, Create & Cultivate’s Top 100 and AdWeek’s Women Trailblazers.

“At Oxo, we believe that cooking is an art form meant to be shared and savored. With the introduction of Melissa Ben-Ishay and Chef JJ to our Chefs in Residence family, we’re embarking on a new chapter of culinary exploration,” says Nicole Rivera, vice president, marketing at Oxo. “Their stories, expertise, and creative flair, combined with the precision of Oxo tools, will undoubtedly spark a renewed passion for cooking in kitchens worldwide.”

The Oxo Chefs in Residence can be followed on the Oxo website and Oxo’s YouTube and Instagram channels.

Prepara is rolling out its Adjustable Drawer Organizer for cutlery, utensils and kitchen gadgets.

The product recently was recognized in Good Housekeeping’s 2023 Best Cleaning & Organizing Awards and featured in the September 2023 issue of Good Housekeeping. The kitchen drawer organizer was also a finalist for the 2023 Global Innovation Awards (gia) at The Inspired Home Show 2023.

The Prepara Adjustable Drawer Organizer, made from heavy-duty, BPA-free polypropylene, incorporates two side wings for assorted gadgets and six divider panels for customization. The dividers can be moved to suit customers’ unique cutlery needs. It is designed to be easy to clean and gentle on silverware, according to Prepara.

The Prepara Adjustable Drawer Organizer is offered in single and double sizes retailing for $20 and $30, respectively.

“Our research indicated that everyday kitchen drawers needed a range of adjustability to suit each homeowner’s amount of cutlery and gadgets, so having a ‘one size fits all’ model to the storage solution didn’t make sense,” said Dean Chapman, Prepara’s founder. “Our unique approach to this was to invent an easy-to-adjust set of divider panels, allowing the storage tray to have adjustable cutlery ‘pockets’ that can be narrowed or expanded depending on the cutlery stored. We designed each divider to be universally adaptable with the addition of side wings, which can be pulled open to accommodate larger kitchen tools and gadgets, keeping the kitchen drawer looking neat and tidy.”

YouCopia, known for its kitchen organizers, is working toward a more sustainable future through its program “Organizers Made Better.”

Lauren Greenwood, president of YouCopia, said that the company was looking for ways to present a more sustainable product for consumers, which led to the creation of Organizers Made Better.

The program breaks down into three parts, Greenwood said. The first involves how the product is sustainable through using post-industrial recycled materials and communicating to consumers the products aren’t meant to be disposable: The longer a product is kept in the house, the more sustainable it is. Secondly, YouCopia uses plastic-free curbside recyclable packaging, which complements its products that can be broken down for a more efficient shipping footprint. Lastly, in its business practices, the company is working with its factories to pass regular audits that check them on social and environmental standards.

“I think the initial feedback has been really strong,” Greenwood said. “Now we are trying to set new goals each year to improve upon what we started and go deeper with some of the goals and activities we are planning.”

While not all YouCopia products fit into Organizers Made Better now, Greenwood said the company is trying with each new product launch to incorporate post-industrial recycled materials and to look out for other materials that might be considered more sustainable in the future. “We want to get to get to a point where all of our products are either made of recycled materials or are recyclable,” she said, noting that they are also discussing end-of-life conversations for what consumers should do when they are done with a YouCopia product.

“You have to start somewhere,” Greenwood noted, saying that it’s important to have transparency with the consumers and show that you are making progress. The company plans to look back after the first year to gauge the percentage of the product line using those recycled materials and to ensure the company is getting closer to the goal of 100% within a reasonable time frame.

Products that are currently in the Organizers Made Better program include:

The Container Store Group has expanded its back-to-college partnership with Dormify, the online shop for dorm décor and organization, the companies announced jointly.

As part of the deal, 40 Container Store locations will give shoppers a chance to check out Dormify decor and bedding alongside the company‘s reimagined college product assortment.

Through September 4, The Container Store locations in Austin, Costa Mesa, Houston, Nashville and New York City feature an exclusive Dormify shop-in-shop experience that incorporates a curated assortment of its exclusive, on-trend bedding and décor items, such as mix-and-match twin XL bedding, innovative charging headboards, pillows, throw blankets and wall art. Then, 35 other select store locations will feature Dormify displays so customers can browse in person before purchasing online. Containerstore.com is carrying more than 90 Dormify products.

To promote the partnership, Dormify and Container Store reported they would host an Instagram giveaway. In addition, Dormify will establish college brand ambassadors in markets where Container Store locations are hosting a Dormify shop-in-shop format. The ambassadors will feature top dorm essentials, move-in tips and advice on where to do last-minute shopping for dorm décor, bedding and related items. College-bound students and their parents can sign up to receive 25% off purchases from The Container Store in stores and online through September 4 by texting “CLASS” to 22922.

“The partnership with Dormify allows us to offer stylish bedding, headboards, throw blankets and décor directly to our customers in a way The Container Store has never done before,” said Stacey Shively, Container Store chief merchandising officer. “We have an increased focus on complementary products to the storage and organization offerings our customers love, and this year college shoppers can find everything they need at The Container Store to set up functional college living spaces that are uniquely their own.”

Shively is a former Bed Bath & Beyond executive and, with that company liquidating, Container Store is in the running for students and their parents that once shopped the bankrupt retailer’s extensive back-to-college assortment.

Amanda Zuckerman, co-founder and president of Dormify, added, “We’re thrilled that students and families have the opportunity to shop for our products in person at The Container Store in markets that are home to so many colleges and universities. With Pinterest pins for ‘dorm room ideas’ topping 14 million, it’s clear that college-bound Gen Zers are looking for inspiration and functional designs that let them express their individuality. Dyson has launched six new products aimed at cleaning homes more intelligently and effectively: a robotic vacuum, two air purifiers, two cordless vacuums and the company’s first wet vacuum cleaner.

Automation, advanced software and intelligence with enhanced cleaning performance are at the heart of the new products, according to Dyson. The products give insight into the company’s expertise in filtration, airflow, motors, software and robotics, the company maintained, adding Dyson’s products understand the surroundings and the task at hand so that the product can automatically respond to tackle the challenge effectively.

John Churchill, chief technology officer at Dyson said, “Robotics, sensing, intelligence — these are all areas that are typically considered ‘future technology’ but at Dyson, they have long been part of product development. Our engineers have, and continue, to employ these technologies to reduce the cognitive burden on our owners, saving time, energy and effort in maintaining a healthy home — a true set-and-forget mindset. Our future vision is of a home that can look after itself. The new technologies launched today are the embodiment of this — the most powerful robotic vacuum cleaner; intelligent, large-room purification; and, for active cleaning, new cordless vacuums and cleaner head technologies that offer adaptive multifunctional cleaning when and where you need it.”

The new products include:

Dyson 360 Vis Nav Robotic Vacuum

Dyson 360 Vis Nav Robotic Vacuum

The Dyson 360 Vis Nav is engineered with Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM) technology and a 360-degree vision system with a fish-eye hemispheric lens that remembers where it has been, sees where to clean and is intelligent enough to create dust maps of the home, says the company. The processor collects data from 26 sensors for tasks including dust detection, obstacle avoidance and wall detection. The vacuum has a run-time of 50 minutes, after which it will automatically return to the dock to recharge. The MyDyson app provides deep cleaning reports after each clean.

“Robotic vacuum cleaners should be highly effective machines that intelligently clean your home, so you don’t have to. Enabling these autonomous cleaners relies on highly complex algorithms, visual interpretation, dust-sensing capabilities and powerful motor technology. Dyson engineers have taken everything we’ve learned from developing our vacuum cleaners, combined it with intelligent software, to develop the Dyson 360 Vis Nav — the most powerful intelligent robot vacuum cleaner,” said Jake Dyson, chief engineer.

Dyson Big + Quiet Formaldehyde Air Purifier

Dyson Big + Quiet Formaldehyde and Dyson HEPA Big + Quiet Formaldehyde Air Purifiers

The Dyson Big + Quiet Formaldehyde purifier is designed for large open-plan spaces while the Dyson HEPA Big + Quiet Formaldehyde purifier is made for shared, commercial spaces. The Cone Aerodynamics deliver up to 32 feet of projection and the CO2 filter indicates when to ventilate. The company says the Big + Quiet Formaldehyde is engineered to operate quietly, producing only 56 decibels of noise, making it Dyson’s quietest and most powerful purifier.

The HEPA H13 particle filter traps up to 99.97% of pollutants as small as 0.3 microns while the K-Carbon filter removes gas pollutants and 3x more nitrogen dioxide. The lifetime Selective Catalytic Oxidation filter destroys formaldehyde permanently. Sensors monitor the indoor air quality and send live data to the MyDyson app.

Dyson Gen5 Cordless Vacuum

Dyson Gen5detect and Dyson Gen5outsize Cordless Vacuums

The Dyson Gen5detect and Dyson Gen5outsize cordless vacuums feature fifth-generation Hyperdymium motor technology with unrivaled suction power capable of capturing viruses from your home, says the company. The machine features a fully sealed, whole-machine HEPA filtration system designed to capture 99.99% of particles down to 0.1 microns. 14 cyclones are engineered to remove dust from the airflow so there’s no suction loss during the clean.

The FluffyOptic cleaner head has increased brightness and range to reveal twice the amount of microscopic dust when compared to a past Dyson cleaner head. The fade-free battery was designed to offer up to 70 minutes of run-time.

Dyson Submarine Wet Roller Head

Dyson Submarine Wet Roller Head

The Dyson Submarine Wet Roller Head is Dyson’s first wet vacuum cleaner. Designed to deliver just the right amount of water to effectively remove spills, stains and spall debris from hard floors with a motor-driven microfiber roller, the Dyson Submarine achieves a “clean floor” finish without over-saturating, says the company. The wet roller head has eight-point hydration and used a pressurized chamber for more water distribution across the entire width of the roller.

Dyson asserts that a durable plate extracts contaminated water from the wet roller and deposits it into a separate waste-water tank to ensure no dirt or debris is transferred back to the floor. The Submarine was designed with a low profile and a full-width brush bar for easy maneuvering underneath furniture to clean dust, debris and spills from even hard-to-reach places.

As part of a plan to become more environmentally friendly, The Container Store Group has announced a Closet Clean Out resale initiative that will give customers the chance to resell “gently worn” clothing, shoes and accessories for shopping credit.

The Container Store also is launching a Sustainable Living event, which highlights the company’s eco-friendly products, the company noted..

The ThredUp Resale-as-a-Service Closet Clean Out program supports the Container Store effort. The Resale-as-a-Service functionality allows brands and retailers to deliver customizable, scalable resale opportunities to their customers.

Already, Container Store customers can earn a Container Store eGift Card for sending in their gently worn women’s and kids’ clothing, footwear and accessories. To participate, customers pick up a ThredUp Clean Out Kit from any of The Container Store’s 97 retail stores or generate a prepaid shipping label from containerstore.thredup.com, fill any shippable box or bag with apparel, shoes and accessories from any brand in their closets, and ship the package to ThredUp for free. For those items that sell on ThredUp, customers receive an eGIft card that can be used at both Container Store physical locations and online at containerstore.com.

To introduce the program, The Container Store and ThredUp are sponsoring a giveaway on Instagram whereby three winners each will receive a $500 Container Store eGift card and a $500 ThredUp gift card. The giveaway closes May 5 at 11:59 PM central time, and winners will be chosen and notified by May 12.

The Closet Clean Out launch coincides with The Container Store Sustainable Living event. At each store location, the company is highlighting a curated assortment of sustainably sourced products. The Container Store wants to help customers reduce their reliance on single-use plastic and environmentally harmful cleaning products and practices. As part of the Sustainable Living initiative, The Container Store is highlighting products across a variety of categories, including food preservation, hydration, recycling, composting and natural cleaning.

“We at The Container Store believe in the power of organization to transform lives, and as a company, we are committed to a sustainable future for ourselves and our planet,” said Melissa Collins, Container Store chief marketing officer. “We could not be happier with this program, where our customers can give new life to their belongings as they clean out and organize their spaces and be rewarded with Container Store credit in the process. Together, we can slow fashion waste and reduce its impact on our planet.”
